Taliaris Isaf is a proper countryside house, with a proper countryside heart, set in a commanding position with stop-the-clock views, space to breathe and room to wander. In a sheltered west facing valley, Taliaris feels cossetting and cosy, it’s warm and welcoming atmosphere is a nod to its previous life as a forge. The beam over the kitchen range has 1726 etched into it … Taliaris has aged well.

The generous spaces will easily take multi-generational groups, but there are still plenty of quiet corners to grab a little ‘you-time’. There are four immaculate bedrooms, one en-suite, light and airy, with soft colour palettes, classically luxurious patterned fabrics but with a nod to contemporary finishes. Reclaimed flooring, original oak beams and a few carefully curated antique pieces make them all a calming place to wake up.

The relaxed dining room has a suitably robust table for those noisy and joyous family dinners, with a toasty fire, reassuringly huge, centuries-old, exposed beams, and an inglenook you could live in. Country prints in the walls, the slate hearth, wild flowers on the table, a rocking chair and polished floorboarding add to the feel. The vegetable garden offers fresh inspiration for every meal, and you are welcome to help yourself. The spacious living room has a wood burning stove, two massive cuddly sofas, direct access out to the terrace … and those views again.

We loved making the most of the 180 degree vista, out over the vegetable garden, across the meadow to the river below from the bubbling luxury of the hot tub.
Whilst Taliaris is on a working farm, guests can explore thirty-five acres of greenery, turn a fork in the vegetable plot, and follow the pathway leading down to the river – maybe cast a fly for the wild brown trout.

Buzzing county town, Llandeilo is just a couple of miles away from Taliaris Isaf. A lovely place to while away a few hours with a little retail therapy, or having a lazy lunch in one of the great eateries dotted around the high street.

A bit further afield are Aberglasney Manor or majestic Dinefwr with its stunning 12th century castle, and glorious 800-acre deer park. If you want to justify another dip in the hot tub take on the iconic ’Llyn-y-Fan-Fach’ (Lady of the Lake) walk, which offers picture postcard panoramas over the Brecon Beacons National Park, glassy lakes and rushing waterfalls.
